Separation anxiety in dogs and cats

My dog destroys everything as soon as I leave. My cat meows non-stop when I'm out. My dog only relieves himself when I'm not there. Does your dog or cat destroy things, bark, meow or relieve itself only when you're away? Does it follow you everywhere in the house, never seem able to relax on its own, or has it become very clingy lately?

This behavior is neither a whim nor revenge: it most often reflects separation anxiety or a deeper emotional unease. An animal may, for example, develop an excessive attachment to its owner (hyper-attachment) in response to a change in its life, a house move, the loss of a companion, or an already established problem — the hyper-attachment then being only the visible part of an older imbalance.

Identifying the real origin of the problem is essential: treating only the symptoms (destruction, vocalizing, soiling linked to your absence) without understanding the cause often limits how effective the work is in the long run. That is why personalized behavioral support makes all the difference.
